Welcome to the French Language Program!  Proper placement is essential for your enjoyment of the experience and for your continued success throughout your semesters/years of French study at Duke.  Please select the sentence below that best describes your past study in French, and follow the instructions found therein.

  1. I have never studied French
  2. I have studied French but have no SAT II, AP, or IB test score.
  3. I have a SAT II score in French.
  4. I have an AP score in French.
  5. I have an IB score in French.

1. I have never studied French. Enroll in French 1 or French 14.

Group 1: I have studied French for no more than 3 years.

Group 2: I had 3 years of French in high school, with the final year being my senior year. My last course was not taught in English, and I did well (A or high B).
Group 3: I had 4 years of high school French. More info
