Foreign Language Requirement
How can I use French to fulfill the language requirement at Duke?
Below are some possible course combinations for completing the Foreign Language
Requirement in French. First, find your category (A, B, or C), select
the category to view the options.
If you have questions about your placement after reading the guidelines below,
please contact french@duke.edu.
Note: To fulfill the FL requirement, courses taken abroad must be taken in
a Duke-administered or Duke-approved program.
Category A: No prior knowledge of French (or 2 years or less in high school, or a SAT II score of 240-410)
Category B: More than 2 years of French: see Placement for information about where to begin.
Category C: Entering with advanced placement in French (640+ on SAT II or AP Literature score of 4 or 5)
